There are two bathrooms upstairs. The guest bathroom contains a tub sink and toilet. The master bath contains a shower and toilet. The sink is in the master bedroom.
There are a bunch of issues with the two bathrooms.
- both are small, the master bath especially so
- for some reason the ceilings are dropped
- I hate the decor (knotty pine and marble. What were they thinking???)
- The toilets are terrible -- they don't flush well and when they do flush, the handle tends to stick "down".
- Did I mention the knotty pine?
- The master bath is painted completely dark red (including a very splotchy ceiling)
- The marble baseboard in the master bath is falling off
- The marble shower is starting to age
- There are no vent fans, so we're starting to have moisture problems.
- Hot water takes forever to reach the bathrooms because the heater is located at the other end of the house
Some first ideas:
- Replace the toilets (we'll probably do this ourselves pretty soon).
- paint the master bath orange (with a white ceiling). I already have orange paint.
- undrop the ceilings? Doable? sensible?
- install vent fans either directly out the wall or through the dropped ceiling.
- combine the bathrooms (I'm dubious about the good sense of this(
- re-arrange the master bath so that shower is on the window wall and toilet just inside the door.
- Relocate water heater and replace with gas
